Oregon Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Oregon to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing!

Oregon is the only state in this series that uses two different departure ports, and the decision comes down to one measurement: your vehicle's height and width. Vehicles at or under 76 inches tall and 76 inches wide ship via Oakland - closer to Portland, faster to Hawaii, and less expensive. Vehicles exceeding either measurement must use Long Beach. Oakland's clearance applies to total height including roof racks and cargo carriers, and total width including mirrors. Measure before you book - choosing the wrong port means either a rejected vehicle at the terminal or unnecessary cost and transit time on the Long Beach route.

How Oregon to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Oregon address to the appropriate departure port, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price - the number you see is the number you pay.

Portland and the Willamette Valley are excellent carrier markets - I-5 south connects directly to Oakland with consistent carrier volume in both directions. Eugene is 110 miles south of Portland with the same I-5 access. Bend and central Oregon access I-5 via US-20 or US-97. Southern Oregon - Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, and Klamath Falls - is the closest part of the state to Oakland, with Klamath Falls at only 357 to 372 miles from the port. The Oregon Coast accesses Oakland via US-20 or US-101 south to California.

Measure your vehicle and confirm which port applies

Measure your vehicle's total height - including roof racks, cargo carriers, and any modifications - and total width including mirrors. If both measurements are 76 inches or under, you use Oakland. If either exceeds 76 inches, you use Long Beach. Tell us your measurements when you call and we confirm the port assignment before booking.

Get your all-inclusive quote for the correct port

Call (808) 378-7540 or use the online form. We will confirm port assignment, quote your all-inclusive price, and coordinate your sailing window around your move-out date, flight, and Hawaii housing situation. Your $600 deposit locks the rate from the moment you book.

Carrier picks up at your Oregon Island address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door and transports it to Oakland or Long Beach. From Portland to Oakland, 2 to 4 days. From Eugene, 2 to 3 days. From southern Oregon, 1 to 2 days. Long Beach adds approximately 1 to 2 more days from any Oregon location.

Matson sails to Hawaii - you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel - fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship - and sails to your Hawaii island. Oakland sailings are more frequent than Long Beach for the Hawaii route. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status

Oregon Pickup Locations & Port Routing

Oregon's entire population lives within practical reach of Oakland via I-5. Southern Oregon cities - Ashland, Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls - have the shortest overland legs to Oakland of any state in the series.

All Virginia shipments route through Long Beach, CA. Virginia's geography places it solidly in the Long Beach routing, vehicles travel the I-40 or southern I-10 corridor cross-country. Oakland does not serve East Coast states.

Why Columbia is the most competitive SC city for Hawaii shipping

Columbia's I-26 and I-20 intersection gives it two westbound interstate options. I-20 runs directly to Atlanta and onward to Texas and the Southwest. I-26 connects west to I-40 through Tennessee. Both corridors are well-traveled carrier lanes with consistent truck traffic. At approximately 2,420 miles from Long Beach, Columbia produces the most competitive door-to-port pricing in the state - load board data confirms standard vehicle overland rates of $900 to $1,050 from the Columbia area.

Why Central SD produces competitive pricing

Fort Pierre and the central South Dakota corridor sit at approximately 1,500 miles from Long Beach - a relatively short overland distance - with I-90 access west. Pricing confirmed from Fort Pierre and Vivian at $750 to $900 reflects both the shorter distance and I-90 corridor access. For South Dakota customers in the Pierre area, this is a genuine pricing advantage relative to eastern SD cities at greater distances.

Rural western SD and reservation areas - call before booking

Pine Ridge, Standing Rock, Rosebud, and Cheyenne River areas have carrier access that varies significantly by specific location. Some remote areas have very limited carrier availability. Call us with your exact address before booking so we can assess whether direct pickup is available or whether staging at a nearby town on I-90 would be more practical.

About these estimates

These ranges are honest estimates, not confirmed load board data. Virginia confirmed overland of $1,050 to $1,350 and southeastern Pennsylvania confirmed $1,100 to $1,255 for similar distances are the closest comparables. Maryland pricing at booking will reflect current carrier market conditions - call us for a live quote before committing to a number.

Starting Rates by Destination Island

Pricing Tip: Shipping to Oahu rather than a neighbor island saves roughly $820 on ocean freight alone. Virginia to neighbor island shipments can take 32 to 40 days total - plan well ahead if Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island is your destination.

Peak season pricing. Peak season surcharges apply June through August. Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead during peak months statewide.

About deposits: Your $600 deposit is paid at booking and applied toward your total - the prices above already reflect it. Booking locks your rate regardless of what the carrier market does after you book. Port-to-Port deposit is $200, applied toward the total.

Worth considering?

If already planning a road trip west

Port-to-Port makes sense only if you are already planning a California road trip before your Hawaii move. For virtually all Virginia customers the door-to-door economics favor letting a carrier handle the cross-country leg.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Vehicles exceeding Oakland clearance - lifted trucks, tall vans, vehicles with roof racks that cannot be removed

Measure before you book - this is non-negotiable

Oakland's 76-inch clearance applies to the total vehicle height including anything attached to it. A roof rack, ski box, cargo carrier, raised suspension, or any aftermarket modification that adds height counts toward the 76-inch limit. A vehicle with a roof box that is 72 inches tall becomes a vehicle that cannot enter Oakland if the box adds more than 4 inches. Remove the rack or box before shipping if your vehicle is close to the limit, or plan for Long Beach. There are no exceptions at the terminal - a vehicle that does not fit Oakland clearance will not enter Oakland.

Why Oakland is better for most Oregon customers

Oakland is approximately 350 miles closer to Portland than Long Beach. That shorter overland leg means lower carrier costs, less transit time, and a faster total door-to-port timeline. For a Portland customer with a standard SUV that fits Oakland clearance, using Oakland instead of Long Beach typically saves $200 to $400 in all-inclusive cost and 5 to 7 days of total transit time. If your vehicle fits, use Oakland.

Transit Times

Transit Times - Oakland vs. Long Beach

The port decision has a significant impact on total transit time. Oakland is substantially faster than Long Beach for Oregon customers because of both the shorter overland leg and the shorter ocean crossing from Northern California.

The most expensive mistake Virginia customers make is booking too late and missing the sailing cutoff. Even one day late means waiting for the next available departure; typically a full week, which cascades into unexpected car rentals and hotel costs nobody planned for. We coordinate every Virginia pickup to a specific sailing window so that does not happen to you.

Booking lead time for Oregon: Portland and Willamette Valley: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. Eugene and southern Oregon: 2 to 3 weeks. Bend and central Oregon: 2 to 3 weeks. Oregon Coast: 2 to 3 weeks. Peak summer months: 4 to 6 weeks minimum. Always confirm port assignment before booking.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup in Oregon

These requirements are enforced at both Oakland and Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No clothing, luggage, tools, or any personal belongings.

Remove or retract all roof racks, cargo carriers, and ski boxes if using Oakland. If the rack cannot be removed and pushes total height above 76 inches, the vehicle must use Long Beach.

Disable the alarm system before pickup.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Oregon's wet climate, forest debris, Douglas fir needles, and coastal salt air accumulate in wheel wells and undercarriage. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check these areas specifically - wash the vehicle thoroughly including underneath before pickup.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional at pickup.

No windshield chips or cracks. Inspect and repair before pickup.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

Louisiana wetlands and biosecurity

Louisiana's bayous, marshes, and coastal wetlands are some of the most biologically active environments in North America. Vehicles driven in these areas - particularly in south Louisiana - can accumulate mud, vegetation, and organic material that Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors will flag. Clean the vehicle thoroughly including wheel wells and the undercarriage before carrier pickup, especially if you have been driving on unpaved roads or in flood-affected areas.

Oregon forest debris and biosecurity

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives - all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Oregon to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions carry two different types of protection.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Oregon to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance covering the vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Oregon address to the departure port - whether Oakland or Long Beach.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives and again at Hawaii terminal collection.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit to the full vehicle value.

PCS Moves

Military and National Guard Moves from Oregon

Oregon has no major active-duty military installations, but the Oregon National Guard operates two significant facilities that generate periodic Hawaii moves through National Guard PCS channels. Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Center near Warrenton on the northern Oregon Coast is the Oregon Army National Guard's primary training facility. Camp Withycombe near Clackamas in the Portland metro area serves as the headquarters of the Oregon National Guard. Guard members PCS'ing to Hawaii through reserve and National Guard channels serve from these installations. Portland's proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington state means some Washington-state military families stage from Oregon addresses.

Virginia PCS moves to Hawaii require early booking. The overland leg from Hampton Roads or Northern Virginia is 7 to 10 days before the car even reaches Long Beach. Cutting the booking timeline short on a Virginia shipment is the most common mistake we see, and it usually means missing a sailing and delaying the entire move. We work through the calendar with every military customer personally so that does not happen.

Newport / Aquidneck Island carrier access
Naval Station Newport, the Naval War College, and SWOS are all on Aquidneck Island, connected to the mainland via the Pell Bridge and two smaller crossings. Carriers accessing Aquidneck Island price the bridge approach into the rate - the same carrier economics that affect other bridge-access geographies. Newport Navy families should plan for $3,280 to $3,680 all-inclusive to Oahu and 3 to 4 weeks of lead time from orders to carrier assignment.

What we offer Guard and Reserve families moving from Oregon

Available to eligible service members PCS'ing from Oregon National Guard installations and JBLM-affiliated personnel staging from Oregon addresses.

Military pricing - discounts up to 20% for eligible service members (PCS orders required at booking)

Port assignment confirmed before booking - vehicle measurement critical for Oregon shipments

OR installations served: Camp Rilea (Warrenton), Camp Withycombe (Clackamas), Oregon National Guard statewide

Hawaii commands served: Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield, MCB Hawaii Kaneohe Bay, Tripler Army Medical Center

Real Reviews from Real Virginia Customers

Car Shipping Hawaii · Honolulu, HI · 18 Years Industry Experience

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

Oregon is the state where port assignment mistakes are most costly. A broker who books a vehicle into Oakland without confirming clearance, or routes a vehicle through Long Beach when it fits Oakland, costs the customer real money and time. We confirm port assignment before booking every Oregon shipment.

Feature Car Shipping Hawaii Typical Broker
Port assignment confirmed before booking ✓ Vehicle measured, port confirmed first ✗ Often defaults to Long Beach without checking
Oakland clearance explained with roof rack context ✓ 76" including attachments - stated clearly ✗ Rarely explains what 76" includes
All-inclusive pricing - quote form matches page price ✓ Deposit in the price, no surprises ✗ Quote form often shows higher number
Oakland vs Long Beach cost difference disclosed ✓ Savings of using correct port explained ✗ Single port quoted without comparison
Named single coordinator ✓ Camilo Jaime, direct and consistent ✗ Call center, different agent each time
Matson Route Specialist ✓ Hawaii route experts only ✗ General auto transport broker
Calendar coordination at booking ✓ Pickup timed to your sailing ✗ Generic window, you figure it out

Booking lead time

Book at least 2 to 3 weeks before your target pickup date. During peak summer months, 4 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended. Virginia shipments need careful lead time - the overland leg is 7 to 10 days, which leaves little room to recover if carrier scheduling slips. A deposit locks your vessel space and your rate.

  • How much does it cost to ship a car from Oregon to Hawaii?

All prices are all-inclusive with the $600 deposit already reflected. Portland via Oakland: $2,345 to $2,495. Eugene and Salem via Oakland: $2,345 to $2,545. Southern Oregon via Oakland: $2,445 to $2,595. Klamath Falls via Oakland: $2,445 to $2,545. Portland via Long Beach (oversized vehicles): $2,680 to $3,055. Neighbor islands add $800 in ocean freight via Oakland. All port assignments depend on vehicle dimensions - measure before booking.

  • Does my Oregon vehicle use Oakland or Long Beach?

Measure your vehicle's total height including roof racks, cargo carriers, and any aftermarket additions, and total width including mirrors. If both are 76 inches or under, use Oakland. If either exceeds 76 inches, use Long Beach. Oakland is always preferred if your vehicle fits - shorter overland, lower cost, faster transit.

  • My vehicle has a roof rack. Do I have to remove it?

If the roof rack pushes your total vehicle height above 76 inches, either remove the rack before shipping or plan for Long Beach. If the rack keeps the vehicle at or under 76 inches, you can ship via Oakland with the rack on. When in doubt, remove the rack - it is the simplest way to ensure Oakland eligibility and lower cost.

  • How long does it take to ship a car from Oregon to Hawaii?

Via Oakland: Portland to Honolulu typically runs 9 to 13 days from carrier pickup. Southern Oregon runs 7 to 11 days - some of the fastest totals in the series due to the short overland leg to Oakland. Via Long Beach: Portland to Honolulu runs 16 to 21 days. Neighbor islands add 7 to 10 more days to any Oakland total.

  • Does Oregon route through Oakland or Long Beach for neighbor islands?

Vehicles within Oakland clearance should still use Oakland for neighbor island shipments - the shorter overland leg lowers your all-inclusive total even though the ocean freight cost is the same. Vehicles exceeding Oakland clearance use Long Beach regardless of destination island.

  • Do I need any documents to ship my car to Hawaii from Oregon?

No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii - not when shipping to Hawaii.

  • Do you ship electric vehicles from Oregon to Hawaii?

No. We do not ship electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids on any route. Standard non-plug-in hybrids are accepted.

  • Can I ship my car from Hawaii back to Oregon?

Yes. We coordinate Port-to-Door shipping from all Hawaii terminals back to Oregon via Oakland. Ocean freight from Honolulu includes transit to Oakland, plus the mainland delivery leg to your Oregon address. When shipping FROM Hawaii, title, current Hawaii registration, and Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate are required. Same all-inclusive pricing, same dedicated coordinator.
