Colorado to Hawaii Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Colorado to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing

Colorado has three distinct shipping markets and each one prices differently. Denver and the Front Range corridor offer competitive all-in pricing from $2,080. Grand Junction and the Western Slope run higher despite being closer to Long Beach - carrier volume on that lane is simply lower. Mountain resort towns carry the steepest premiums, and in winter some locations require meeting the driver at a staging point on the highway. We assess your exact address before quoting so you get an honest number, not a state average.

Ship Your Car from Colorado to Hawaii is handled with secure vehicle pickup, transport to port terminal, ocean freight shipping, and safe delivery to Hawaii.
Simple. Transparent. Reliable.

How Colorado to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

There is no direct sailing from Colorado to Hawaii. Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Colorado address to Long Beach, CA, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. Every Colorado shipment routes through Long Beach via I-70 west. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price.

The I-70 mountain corridor is one of the most consequential variables in Colorado shipping. Between Denver and the Utah border, the route crosses the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,013 feet, Vail Pass, and Glenwood Canyon - all of which are subject to closures, chain requirements, and weather delays from November through April. We account for this in calendar planning, especially for customers whose pickup window falls in winter or early spring.

Get your all-in quote - your exact address matters in Colorado

Call (808) 378-7540 or fill out the online form. Colorado's three distinct pricing zones mean a Denver address and a Gunnison address have very different overland costs. We quote based on your specific location before you commit to anything.

We coordinate your sailing window around your move calendar

Your vehicle travels 1,350 to 1,600 miles to Long Beach depending on your Texas city. Our team times the departure to align with the port receiving window for your target Matson sailing. Dallas shipments typically reach Long Beach in 3 to 5 days. Houston runs 4 to 6 days.

Carrier picks up at your Colorado address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door and transports it to Long Beach. From Denver, this is 3 to 5 business days on I-70. Mountain area customers may need to meet the carrier at a staging point on the highway - we confirm this before you book, not after.

Matson sails to Hawaii -you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel and sails to your Hawaii island, fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship for the entire ocean crossing. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status and walk you through terminal pickup.

Colorado Pickup Locations & Port Routing

All Colorado shipments route through Long Beach via I-70 west. The state breaks into three distinct markets with meaningfully different carrier availability and pricing. Understanding which zone you are in is the first step to getting an honest quote.

Cars are ready to ship from Colorado to Hawaii after inspection, documentation, and secure loading for transport to port and ocean freight service.
Colorado Region Port Miles to LB Overland Days Carrier Notes
Denver / Boulder / Longmont / Broomfield Long Beach ~1,016 mi 3 to 5 days Strong availability, I-70 west corridor
Fort Collins / Loveland / Greeley (Northern Front Range) Long Beach ~1,050 to 1,090 mi 3 to 5 days Good availability, joins I-70 at Denver
Colorado Springs / Pueblo / Fountain (Southern Front Range) Long Beach ~1,000 to 1,060 mi 3 to 5 days Strong availability, Fort Carson corridor
Grand Junction / Montrose / Delta (Western Slope) Long Beach ~741 to 830 mi 2 to 4 days Shorter miles, lower carrier volume, premium applies
Durango / Cortez / Farmington area (SW Colorado) Long Beach ~900 to 960 mi 3 to 5 days Limited carrier availability, call for quote
Aspen / Vail / Breckenridge / Steamboat / Crested Butte / Telluride Long Beach ~900 to 1,100 mi 4 to 7 days High premium, winter staging may be required
Aspen / Vail / Breckenridge / Steamboat / Crested Butte / Telluride Long Beach ~913 mi 4 to 6 days Limited access, $1,100+ overland confirmed on load board

Mountain resort towns and rural Colorado

If you live in Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Crested Butte, Steamboat Springs, Gunnison, or any address above 8,000 feet or on a mountain access road, carrier availability is significantly limited. Overland costs run $900 to $1,400 or higher. In winter months, some carriers will not drive up mountain passes and you may need to meet the driver at a staging point on I-70 or US-50. We confirm this with you at booking based on your exact address and your shipping window. Call us before assuming standard door pickup is available at your address.

Why Long Beach, not Oakland?

Oakland routes vehicles from the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle. Colorado routes through Long Beach because large auto transport haulers avoid Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The I-70 to I-15 corridor to Long Beach is faster, safer, and typically less expensive for Colorado shipments. Any broker routing your Colorado vehicle to Oakland is using the wrong port.

Why Grand Junction costs more than Denver despite being closer

Grand Junction is approximately 741 miles from Long Beach - 275 miles shorter than Denver. But carrier volume on the Grand Junction-to-California lane is a fraction of the Denver-to-California lane. Fewer trucks competing for loads means rates stay higher regardless of distance. This is a real market reality, not a broker markup. The same dynamic applies across the Western Slope.

Colorado to Hawaii Car Shipping Costs

Colorado's pricing reflects three distinct carrier markets. The Front Range I-70 corridor from Denver through Colorado Springs has the strongest carrier availability and the most competitive overland rates in the state. The Western Slope runs higher despite shorter mileage to Long Beach. Mountain resort towns carry the steepest premiums, with Gunnison load board data confirming $1,100 overland for a single standard vehicle - a real-world data point, not an estimate.

Cost Component Typical Range
Overland - Denver / Boulder / Longmont (standard car) $550 – $700

Door-to-Port vs. Port-to-Port from Colorado

Long Beach is roughly 1,000 miles from Denver, a 14 to 15 hour drive. Port-to-port from Colorado is not a practical option for most customers in the way it is for Las Vegas residents. The exception is customers who are already road-tripping from Colorado through Southern California as part of their move plan before flying to Hawaii.

Port-to-Port note

Port-to-Port starts at $1,580 to Oahu and $2,400 to neighbor islands. For El Paso customers, driving ~800 miles to Long Beach can make financial sense if you're already planning a California trip. For Dallas or Houston customers, a 1,400 to 1,550 mile drive each way rarely saves money once you account for fuel and hotels.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Transit Times

Transit Times & the Matson Sailing Schedule

Colorado's overland leg runs 3 to 5 days for Front Range customers under normal I-70 conditions. The I-70 mountain corridor is one of the few overland routes in the country with genuine seasonal risk - Eisenhower Tunnel, Vail Pass, and Glenwood Canyon all carry closure and delay potential from November through April. We build this into calendar planning for any Colorado customer shipping in winter months.

Booking lead time: Front Range customers: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. Mountain resort town customers: 3 to 4 weeks minimum, and 5 to 6 weeks from November through April when I-70 corridor delays and carrier availability in mountain areas are both real variables. Peak summer statewide: 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup

These requirements are enforced at Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No luggage, household goods, or belongings permitted. Enforced at intake and Hawaii agricultural inspection.

Disable the alarm system before pickup. Active alarms cause intake delays at port.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Colorado road grime, mud, and mountain road debris accumulate in wheel wells and undercarriage. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check these areas closely - wash the vehicle thoroughly including underneath before pickup.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional.

No windshield chips or cracks.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives, all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Colorado to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions carry two different types of protection.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Colorado to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier transporting your vehicle to the port carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance. This covers your vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Colorado address to Long Beach.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before pickup in Colorado and again at Hawaii terminal collection. This documentation protects you in any claim situation on either leg.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to the actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit up to the full value of your vehicle.

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class M. Chen — Norfolk, VA to Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Tom & Angela B. — Virginia Beach, VA to Kahului, Maui

Relocating from Richmond to Honolulu for work. I got quotes from four companies — only Car Shipping Hawaii explained the two-part cost structure honestly. One price, locked. No calls asking for more money before pickup.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

The most common failure point for Colorado customers using general brokers: being quoted a Denver Front Range rate for an address in Aspen or Gunnison, then hit with a carrier surcharge after booking when the actual pickup cost comes in. We quote based on your exact address before you commit. Before booking anyone, ask for that in writing.

  • How much does it cost to ship a car from Colorado to Hawaii?

Cost varies significantly by location within Colorado. Denver Front Range: $2,080 to $2,380 door-to-port to Oahu. Grand Junction and Western Slope: $2,280 to $2,530. Mountain resort towns - Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Gunnison, Steamboat, Crested Butte: $2,480 to $2,980 or higher. Neighbor islands add $820 in ocean freight. Deposit of $600 for door-to-port is applied toward your total, not added on top.

  • How long does it take to ship a car from Colorado to Hawaii?

Front Range to Honolulu: typically 17 to 21 days from pickup. This includes 3 to 5 days overland to Long Beach, 1 to 2 days port processing, and 12 to 14 days ocean transit. Mountain resort customers add 1 to 3 days. Neighbor islands add 13 to 16 more days, putting the total at 30 to 36 days from pickup. Winter I-70 conditions may add 1 to 2 additional overland days November through April.

  • I live in a mountain town in Colorado. Will that affect my pickup?

Yes, significantly. Carrier availability in resort and mountain towns is limited year-round and can be severely restricted in winter. Overland costs run $900 to $1,400 or higher. Some carriers will not drive up mountain passes and you may need to meet the driver at a highway staging point on I-70 or US-50. We confirm all of this at booking based on your exact address and shipping window. Call us before assuming standard door pickup applies to your address.

  • Why does Grand Junction cost more than Denver if it is closer to Long Beach?

Grand Junction is approximately 741 miles from Long Beach versus Denver's 1,016 miles. However, carrier volume on the Grand Junction-to-California lane is far lower than the Denver-to-California lane. Fewer trucks competing for loads means rates stay higher regardless of distance. This is a real market dynamic, not a broker markup, and it applies across the Western Slope.

  • Does Colorado route through Long Beach or Oakland?

All Colorado shipments route through Long Beach, CA via I-70 west. Long Beach height clearance is 7 feet, width clearance 7 feet 2 inches. Remove all roof racks, ski boxes, and cargo carriers before pickup to avoid clearance issues at the terminal.

  • Do I need any documents to ship my car to Hawaii from Colorado?

No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii, not when shipping to Hawaii.

  • Do you ship electric vehicles from Colorado to Hawaii?

No. We do not ship electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids on any route, including Colorado to Hawaii. Standard non-plug-in hybrids are accepted.

  • Can I ship my car from Hawaii back to Colorado?

Yes. We coordinate Port-to-Door shipping from all Hawaii terminals back to Colorado. Ocean freight from Honolulu runs $900 to $1,200 with a 12 to 14 day transit, plus the mainland delivery leg to your Colorado address. Mountain resort deliveries carry the same access and premium considerations as pickup. When shipping FROM Hawaii, your title, current Hawaii registration, and Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate are required. Same all-inclusive pricing, same dedicated coordinator.
