Massachusetts to Hawaii Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Massachusetts to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing!

VMassachusetts has strong carrier availability from Boston and the I-90 corridor, with load board data confirming $870 to $1,225 overland from the Boston metro at approximately 2,970 to 3,010 miles. Springfield in western Massachusetts benefits from direct I-90 Mass Pike access and produces better rates than Boston despite being in the same state - $800 overland confirmed at 2,914 miles. Cape Cod is a peninsula accessed only via the Bourne and Sagamore bridges, creating the same carrier dead-end dynamic seen in coastal North Carolina: carriers making pickups on the Cape price the dedicated bridge crossing and out-and-back into the rate. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket require ferry staging to the mainland before pickup - we coordinate that conversation before you book anything.

How Massachusetts to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

There is no direct sailing from Massachusetts to Hawaii. Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Massachusetts address to Long Beach, CA, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. All Massachusetts shipments route through Long Beach via I-90 west. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price - the number you see is the number you pay.

Boston is approximately 2,970 to 3,010 miles from Long Beach - among the longer overland distances in this series. Despite that, the Boston metro produces competitive carrier rates due to high outbound vehicle volume on the I-90 corridor. Springfield, 90 miles west of Boston on the Mass Pike, produces the best rates in the state: load board confirms $800 overland at only 2,914 miles, benefiting from direct I-90 access and the Pioneer Valley carrier corridor. Cape Cod requires separate planning - the Bourne and Sagamore bridges are the only access points to the peninsula, and carriers price the dedicated bridge crossing into every Cape pickup.

Get your all-inclusive quote

Call (808) 378-7540 or use the online form. Boston metro, Worcester, and Springfield have good carrier availability. Cape Cod customers should mention their location upfront - the bridge bottleneck affects both pricing and carrier assignment time. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket customers should call first to discuss mainland staging options.

We lock your rate and coordinate your sailing window

We go through your move-out date, your flight, and your Hawaii housing situation personally and time the carrier pickup to hit the right Matson sailing. Your $600 deposit locks the all-inclusive rate from the moment you book.

Carrier picks up at your Massachusetts address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door and transports it to Long Beach via I-90 west. From Boston, this is 8 to 11 days. From Springfield, 7 to 10 days. From Cape Cod, 9 to 12 days including the bridge approach.

Matson sails to Hawaii - you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel and sails to your Hawaii island, fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status and walk you through terminal pickup.

Massachusetts Pickup Locations & Port Routing

All Massachusetts shipments route through Long Beach, CA via I-90 west. The state's compact geography creates distinct carrier markets based primarily on highway access and peninsula geography rather than distance alone.

All Virginia shipments route through Long Beach, CA. Virginia's geography places it solidly in the Long Beach routing, vehicles travel the I-40 or southern I-10 corridor cross-country. Oakland does not serve East Coast states.

Ship Your Car from Massachusetts to Hawaii is handled as a car is securely packed, moved by truck, and shipped across the Pacific Ocean.

Why Springfield costs less than Boston despite being in the same state

Springfield sits directly on I-90 - the Massachusetts Turnpike - 90 miles west of Boston. Carriers running the I-90 corridor from New York to Los Angeles pass through Springfield on every run and can pick up loads there without any detour. Load board confirms $800 overland from Springfield at 2,914 miles. Boston, despite having higher carrier volume overall, produces $870 to $1,225 because carriers accessing Boston must navigate metro traffic and longer approach routes to reach the city before returning to the I-90 main lane heading west. For customers in the Springfield area, this is a meaningful price advantage.

Cape Cod - bridge bottleneck premium

Cape Cod is a peninsula accessible only via the Bourne Bridge and the Sagamore Bridge - two crossings over the Cape Cod Canal. Carriers picking up on the Cape must cross one of those bridges, service your pickup, and cross back before rejoining the highway network heading west. There are very few other auto transport loads to fill on that peninsula out-and-back, so carriers price the dedicated approach into the rate. Load board confirms $1,000 overland from Hyannis at 3,060 miles - reasonable, but higher than comparable mainland addresses. In summer, Cape Cod bridge traffic adds meaningful time to carrier approach and departure. Book early for summer Cape Cod pickups.

Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket - ferry staging required

Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are island communities accessible only by ferry. We do not offer direct door-to-port pickup from either island. Customers from the Vineyard or Nantucket need to ferry their vehicle to the mainland - either to the Cape Cod mainland or to a South Shore or Boston area staging location - for carrier pickup. Call us before booking and we will assess the most practical staging option for your specific situation.

All-Inclusive Pricing

Starting Rates by Destination Island

Pricing Tip: Shipping to Oahu rather than a neighbor island saves roughly $820 on ocean freight alone. Virginia to neighbor island shipments can take 32 to 40 days total - plan well ahead if Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island is your destination.

Peak season pricing. Peak season surcharges apply June through August. Cape Cod in summer faces both peak pricing and bridge traffic delays - book 5 to 6 weeks ahead for any Cape Cod summer shipment.

How your deposit works: Your $600 deposit is paid at booking and applied toward your total - the prices above already reflect it. Booking locks your rate regardless of what the carrier market does after you book. Port-to-Port deposit is $200, also applied toward the total.

Practical from MA?

Not realistic - longest overland in series

Port-to-Port makes sense only if you are already planning a California road trip before your Hawaii move. For virtually all Virginia customers the door-to-door economics favor letting a carrier handle the cross-country leg.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Transit Times

Transit Times & the Matson Sailing Schedule

Massachusetts has among the longest total door-to-port times in the series due to the overland distance. Boston to Honolulu typically runs 24 to 29 days - 8 to 11 overland plus 1 to 2 days port processing plus 12 to 14 days ocean transit. Springfield shaves 1 to 2 days off the overland leg. Cape Cod adds 1 to 2 days.

The most expensive mistake Virginia customers make is booking too late and missing the sailing cutoff. Even one day late means waiting for the next available departure; typically a full week, which cascades into unexpected car rentals and hotel costs nobody planned for. We coordinate every Virginia pickup to a specific sailing window so that does not happen to you.

Booking lead time for Massachusetts: Boston metro, Worcester, and Springfield: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. North Shore and South Shore: 2 to 3 weeks. Cape Cod: 3 to 4 weeks minimum year-round, 5 to 6 weeks in summer. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket: call first to assess staging. Peak summer statewide: 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup

These requirements are enforced at Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No luggage, household goods, or belongings permitted. Enforced at intake and Hawaii agricultural inspection.

Disable the alarm system before pickup.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Massachusetts road salt, coastal salt air on the Cape and South Shore, and organic material from New England seasons accumulate in wheel wells and undercarriage. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check these areas specifically - wash the vehicle thoroughly including underneath, paying particular attention to wheel wells and the undercarriage if you have been driving coastal roads.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional at pickup. New England winters are hard on brakes and suspension - confirm both are in good condition before carrier arrives.

No windshield chips or cracks. Inspect and repair before pickup.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

Road salt and biosecurity - New England vehicles

Massachusetts uses significant road salt during winter months, and that salt accumulates in undercarriage, wheel wells, and suspension components. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check for road salt residue and organic material. Wash the vehicle thoroughly including the undercarriage before pickup, especially if shipping in spring when salt accumulation from the previous winter is highest.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives - all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Massachusetts to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions carry two different types of protection.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Massachusetts to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance covering the vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Massachusetts address to Long Beach - from a Boston street, a Worcester suburb, a Cape Cod address, or a base housing unit at Hanscom AFB.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives and again at Hawaii terminal collection.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit to the full vehicle value.

PCS Moves

Military PCS Moves from Massachusetts to Hawaii

Massachusetts has several military and reserve installations that generate periodic PCS moves to Hawaii commands. Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford is a Space Force and Air Force installation housing the Space Systems Command and Air Force Research Laboratory, generating occasional PCS moves for Space Force and Air Force personnel. Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee near Springfield is home to the 439th Airlift Wing flying C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft - one of the Air Force Reserve's largest airlift wings - and generates Air Force Reserve PCS moves. Joint Base Cape Cod, combining Otis Air National Guard Base and Camp Edwards, is home to Massachusetts Air and Army National Guard units. Devens Reserve Forces Training Area in Ayer serves Army Reserve and National Guard training.

Virginia PCS moves to Hawaii require early booking. The overland leg from Hampton Roads or Northern Virginia is 7 to 10 days before the car even reaches Long Beach. Cutting the booking timeline short on a Virginia shipment is the most common mistake we see, and it usually means missing a sailing and delaying the entire move. We work through the calendar with every military customer personally so that does not happen.

Joint Base Cape Cod - bridge bottleneck applies to military shipments too

Otis ANGB and Camp Edwards are located on Cape Cod, which means the Bourne and Sagamore bridge bottleneck applies to military shipments from Joint Base Cape Cod the same as it does for civilian customers. Guard and Reserve members PCS'ing from JBCC should plan for the Cape Cod carrier premium and book earlier than a mainland Massachusetts installation would require - 4 to 5 weeks minimum.

What we offer military families moving from Massachusetts

Available to eligible service members PCS'ing from Hanscom AFB, Westover ARB, Joint Base Cape Cod, and Massachusetts National Guard installations to any Hawaii command.

Military pricing - discounts up to 20% for eligible service members (PCS orders required at booking)

Scheduling built around your reporting date, not a generic calendar window

Full documentation coordination - Bill of Lading, condition reports, insurance paperwork

Dedicated coordinator reachable by phone and email throughout your shipment

joint Base Cape Cod shipments planned with the bridge bottleneck in mind from day one

MA installations served: Hanscom AFB (Bedford), Westover ARB (Chicopee), Joint Base Cape Cod (Otis ANGB and Camp Edwards), Devens Reserve Forces Training Area (Ayer), MA National Guard installations statewide

Hawaii commands served: Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield, MCB Hawaii Kaneohe Bay, Tripler Army Medical Center, and others

Real Reviews from Real Virginia Customers

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class M. Chen — Norfolk, VA to Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

Massachusetts customers face two common broker failures: being quoted a Boston rate for a Cape Cod address without acknowledging the bridge premium, and being surprised by a higher number on the quote form because the deposit was not reflected in the advertised price. We solve both at the first call.

Feature Car Shipping Hawaii Typical Broker
All-inclusive pricing - quote form matches page price ✓ Deposit in the price, no surprises ✗ Quote form often shows higher number
Cape Cod bridge premium explained upfront ✓ Bottleneck priced honestly at booking ✗ Often quoted at Boston rate
Martha's Vineyard / Nantucket staging assessed before booking ✓ Staging options discussed first ✗ Booking taken, problem found later
Springfield vs Boston pricing difference explained ✓ I-90 corridor advantage disclosed ✗ Statewide flat rate
Named single coordinator ✓ Camilo Jaime, direct and consistent ✗ Call center, different agent each time
Matson Route Specialist ✓ Hawaii route experts only ✗ General auto transport broker
Calendar coordination at booking ✓ Pickup timed to your sailing ✗ Generic window, you figure it out

Booking lead time

Book at least 2 to 3 weeks before your target pickup date. During peak summer months, 4 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended. Virginia shipments need careful lead time - the overland leg is 7 to 10 days, which leaves little room to recover if carrier scheduling slips. A deposit locks your vessel space and your rate.

  • How much does it cost to ship a car from Massachusetts to Hawaii?

All prices are all-inclusive with the $600 deposit already reflected. Springfield and western MA: $2,980 to $3,130. Worcester and central MA: $2,980 to $3,480. Boston metro: $3,050 to $3,405, with load board confirming $870 to $1,225 overland from Boston area addresses. Cape Cod: $3,130 to $3,380, with $1,000 overland confirmed from Hyannis at 3,060 miles. Neighbor islands add $820 in ocean freight. The price you see is the price you pay.

  • Why does Cape Cod cost more than Boston?

Cape Cod is a peninsula accessible only via the Bourne and Sagamore bridges. Carriers making pickups there must cross a bridge, service the pickup, and cross back before heading west - a dedicated out-and-back with very few other loads to fill. That carrier economics premium shows up in the rate. Load board confirms $1,000 overland from Hyannis - reasonable, but higher than comparable Boston addresses despite being farther from Long Beach.

  • Can you ship a car from Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket?

Not directly from the islands. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are accessible only by ferry and we do not offer direct pickup there. Customers need to ferry their vehicle to the mainland - either to Cape Cod or to the South Shore - for carrier pickup. Call us before booking and we will assess the most practical staging location for your situation.

  • Why is Springfield cheaper to ship from than Boston?

Springfield sits directly on I-90 - the Massachusetts Turnpike - and carriers running the I-90 corridor from New York to Los Angeles pass through without any detour. Load board confirms $800 overland from Springfield at 2,914 miles versus $870 to $1,225 from Boston addresses. If you are in the Springfield or Pioneer Valley area, you have a meaningful price advantage over the Boston metro.

  • Does Massachusetts route through Long Beach or Oakland?

All Massachusetts shipments route through Long Beach, CA. I-90 west connects to I-84 and then I-80 west across the country. Long Beach height clearance is 7 feet, width clearance 7 feet 2 inches.

  • Do I need any documents to ship my car to Hawaii from Massachusetts?

No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii - not when shipping to Hawaii.

  • Do you ship electric vehicles from Massachusetts to Hawaii?

No. We do not ship electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids on any route. Standard non-plug-in hybrids are accepted.

  • Can I ship my car from Hawaii back to Massachusetts?

Yes. We coordinate Port-to-Door shipping from all Hawaii terminals back to Massachusetts. Ocean freight from Honolulu runs $900 to $1,200 with a 12 to 14 day transit, plus the mainland delivery leg. Cape Cod delivery carries the same bridge bottleneck premium as pickup. When shipping FROM Hawaii, title, current Hawaii registration, and Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate are required. Same all-inclusive pricing, same dedicated coordinator.
