Kentucky to Hawaii Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Kentucky to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing!

Kentucky has one of the strongest carrier datasets in this series - 10 confirmed data points across five distinct regions. Louisville anchors the state with $850 to $1,000 confirmed overland, producing the lowest all-inclusive floor in Kentucky. The state's two major military installations both appear in the data. Fort Campbell's three confirmed Oak Grove data points and one direct Fort Campbell data point reflect the enormous PCS volume that the 101st Airborne Division generates to Schofield Barracks - Fort Campbell is one of the largest Army installations in the United States. Fort Knox pricing is confirmed at $1,175. Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian country has more limited carrier access and requires additional lead time, similar to neighboring West Virginia.

How Kentucky to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

There is no direct sailing from Kentucky to Hawaii. Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Kentucky address to Long Beach, CA, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. All Kentucky shipments route through Long Beach. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price - the number you see is the number you pay.

Kentucky's interstate network gives its major population centers good carrier access. Louisville sits at the intersection of I-64 and I-65 - two major corridors with westbound connections to I-24 and I-40. Lexington connects via I-64 west to Louisville or directly via US-60 to I-65. Fort Campbell in the southwest uses I-24 west directly - one of the more direct Kentucky routes to Long Beach. Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati suburbs access I-71 south to Louisville. Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian geography is the exception: the coalfields corridor between Ashland, Pikeville, and Hazard has more limited carrier access and higher rates.

Call (808) 378-7540 or use the online form. Fort Campbell 101st Airborne families should call when orders arrive - the Hawaii PCS corridor from Fort Campbell is one of the busiest in the country and we build the calendar from day one. Eastern KY customers should mention their location before booking.

We lock your rate and coordinate your sailing window

We go through your move-out date, your flight, and your Hawaii housing situation personally and time the carrier pickup to hit the right Matson sailing. Your $600 deposit locks the all-inclusive rate from the moment you book.

Carrier picks up at your Kentucky address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door. From Louisville, 6 to 8 days to Long Beach. From Fort Campbell via I-24, 5 to 7 days - one of the faster Kentucky routes given the direct western corridor. From Lexington, 6 to 8 days. From eastern KY, 7 to 10 days depending on location.

Matson sails to Hawaii - you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel and sails to your Hawaii island, fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status and walk you through terminal pickup.

Kentucky Pickup Locations & Port Routing

All Kentucky shipments route through Long Beach, CA. I-65 south to Nashville and I-24 west is the primary carrier artery for central and western Kentucky. I-64 west connects Louisville through St. Louis to I-40 west. Fort Campbell's I-24 access makes it one of the more direct military origin points in the series.

All Virginia shipments route through Long Beach, CA. Virginia's geography places it solidly in the Long Beach routing, vehicles travel the I-40 or southern I-10 corridor cross-country. Oakland does not serve East Coast states.

Eastern Kentucky - call before booking

Ashland, Pikeville, Hazard, Prestonsburg, and the surrounding Appalachian coal country have carrier access that varies significantly by specific location. The mountain geography and limited highway network create the same carrier scarcity seen in rural West Virginia. Call us with your specific eastern Kentucky address before booking so we can assess current availability and realistic lead time.

Fort Campbell's carrier advantage via I-24

Fort Campbell sits at the Kentucky-Tennessee border near Clarksville, Tennessee, with direct I-24 access west through Nashville and on to Nashville Junction in Tennessee, then west to Memphis and I-40 west to California. This is one of the more direct overland routes from any Kentucky address - at approximately 1,996 miles from Oak Grove to Long Beach, it is the shortest overland distance in the state. The heavy PCS volume from the 101st Airborne means carriers are consistently available in the Fort Campbell corridor.

Pricing Tip: Shipping to Oahu rather than a neighbor island saves roughly $820 on ocean freight alone. Virginia to neighbor island shipments can take 32 to 40 days total - plan well ahead if Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island is your destination.

Peak season pricing. Peak season surcharges apply June through August. Fort Campbell's 101st Airborne PCS cycle peaks heavily in summer - the Hawaii corridor from Fort Campbell is among the busiest in the country during peak PCS season. Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead during summer months statewide.

About deposits: Your $600 deposit is paid at booking and applied toward your total - the prices above already reflect it. Booking locks your rate regardless of what the carrier market does after you book. Port-to-Port deposit is $200, applied toward the total.

Practical from KY?

Not realistic for most customers

Port-to-Port makes sense only if you are already planning a California road trip before your Hawaii move. For virtually all Virginia customers the door-to-door economics favor letting a carrier handle the cross-country leg.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Transit Times

Transit Times & the Matson Sailing Schedule

Fort Campbell's direct I-24 access produces the fastest overland leg in Kentucky. Louisville and central Kentucky run a standard 6 to 8 day overland. Total door-to-port from Louisville to Honolulu typically runs 21 to 26 days.

The most expensive mistake Virginia customers make is booking too late and missing the sailing cutoff. Even one day late means waiting for the next available departure; typically a full week, which cascades into unexpected car rentals and hotel costs nobody planned for. We coordinate every Virginia pickup to a specific sailing window so that does not happen to you.

Booking lead time for Kentucky: Louisville, Lexington, and central KY: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. Fort Campbell: call when orders arrive. Fort Knox: call when orders arrive. Northern KY and Bowling Green: 2 to 3 weeks. Eastern KY Appalachian: 3 to 4 weeks - call before booking. Peak summer months: 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup in Kentucky

These requirements are enforced at Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No clothing, luggage, tools, or any personal belongings. Enforced at terminal intake and Hawaii agricultural inspection.

Disable the alarm system before pickup.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Kentucky vehicles pick up red clay and agricultural soil in the Bluegrass region and organic debris from eastern Kentucky's forests - both attract Hawaii USDA biosecurity attention. Wash the vehicle thoroughly including wheel wells and undercarriage before pickup.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional at pickup.

No windshield chips or cracks. Inspect and repair before pickup.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

Minnesota road salt and biosecurity

Minnesota applies road salt aggressively through its long winters. Undercarriage salt accumulation is a real biosecurity concern - Hawaii USDA inspectors are trained to detect it. A thorough undercarriage wash before pickup is not optional for Minnesota vehicles. This is also good practice for the carrier's equipment and for protecting your vehicle during the 5 to 7 day overland transit.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives - all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Kentucky to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions of your shipment are covered by two different types of protection, and understanding both before you book matters - especially on a long cross-country haul from Virginia.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Kentucky to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance covering the vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Kentucky address to Long Beach - from a Louisville neighborhood, a Fort Campbell base housing address, a Fort Knox street, or an eastern Kentucky location.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives and again at Hawaii terminal collection.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit to the full vehicle value.

PCS Moves

Military PCS Moves from Kentucky to Hawaii

Fort Campbell, Kentucky is home to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) - the Army's only air assault division - and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the Night Stalkers. Fort Campbell is one of the largest active Army installations in the United States and generates more PCS volume to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii than almost any other Army installation in the country. The 101st Airborne's rotational cycles produce a consistent and predictable PCS pipeline to Hawaii that we plan around from the moment orders arrive. The installation straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee border, and Oak Grove, Kentucky, immediately adjacent to the main gate, produced four of our confirmed carrier data points. Fort Knox, southwest of Louisville, is home to the United States Army Human Resources Command - the Army's principal organization for managing personnel, assignments, and career development - and the Army Recruiting Command. Fort Knox generates consistent PCS moves to Hawaii as Human Resources Command personnel rotate to Hawaii commands. The Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond handles chemical weapons demilitarization and generates periodic military moves through defense contractor channels.

Virginia PCS moves to Hawaii require early booking. The overland leg from Hampton Roads or Northern Virginia is 7 to 10 days before the car even reaches Long Beach. Cutting the booking timeline short on a Virginia shipment is the most common mistake we see, and it usually means missing a sailing and delaying the entire move. We work through the calendar with every military customer personally so that does not happen.

🎖️ Military discounts may apply depending on route and availability. If you cannot drop off at a West Coast port yourself, our door-to-port service includes nationwide pickup at your base address. Call us to discuss both options and which makes sense for your PCS orders.

Military PCS Car Shipping from Virginia to Hawaii is handled with inspection, secure transport to port, ocean freight shipment, and coordinated delivery for service members.

Real Reviews from Real Virginia Customers

Camilo Jaime — Lead Shipping Coordinator

Car Shipping Hawaii · Honolulu, HI · 18 Years Industry Experience

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class M. Chen — Norfolk, VA to Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Tom & Angela B. — Virginia Beach, VA to Kahului, Maui

Relocating from Richmond to Honolulu for work. I got quotes from four companies — only Car Shipping Hawaii explained the two-part cost structure honestly. One price, locked. No calls asking for more money before pickup.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

Kentucky's main risk for customers is the summer PCS surge from Fort Campbell. The 101st Airborne summer rotation is one of the heaviest in the Army. A broker who books a Fort Campbell customer with a standard 2-week window during peak season and has not built the calendar around the reporting date creates the exact crisis we prevent.

Feature Car Shipping Hawaii Typical Broker
Fort Campbell 101st Airborne PCS experience ✓ Hawaii PCS corridor managed regularly ✗ Treats it as standard booking
Fort Knox HRC PCS experience ✓ HRC rotation to Hawaii managed ✗ Generic process
All-inclusive pricing - quote form matches page price ✓ Deposit in the price, no surprises ✗ Quote form often shows higher number
Eastern KY access assessed before booking ✓ Appalachian carrier limits discussed upfront ✗ Booking taken, problem found later
Named single coordinator ✓ Camilo Jaime, direct and consistent ✗ Call center, different agent each time
Matson Route Specialist ✓ Hawaii route experts only ✗ General auto transport broker
Calendar coordination at booking ✓ Pickup timed to your sailing ✗ Generic window, you figure it out

Booking lead time

Book at least 2 to 3 weeks before your target pickup date. During peak summer months, 4 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended. Virginia shipments need careful lead time - the overland leg is 7 to 10 days, which leaves little room to recover if carrier scheduling slips. A deposit locks your vessel space and your rate.

Lexington and central KY: $3,080 to $3,280, with $900 to $975 confirmed. Fort Campbell and Oak Grove: $3,180 to $3,380, with $1,000 to $1,185 confirmed. Fort Knox: $3,280 to $3,480, with $1,175 confirmed. Northern KY and Cincinnati suburbs: $3,280 to $3,480. Paducah and Bowling Green: $3,180 to $3,380. Eastern KY Appalachian: $3,380 to $3,780. Neighbor islands add $820 in ocean freight.

  • I am PCS'ing from Fort Campbell. What should I know?

Fort Campbell is home to the 101st Airborne Division and generates one of the highest PCS volumes to Schofield Barracks of any installation in the country. The I-24 west corridor from Fort Campbell is direct. Call us when orders arrive - we build the calendar from your reporting date on the first call. Summer is peak PCS season and 4 to 6 weeks of lead time is appropriate.

  • I am PCS'ing from Fort Knox. What should I know?

Fort Knox is home to the Army Human Resources Command. HRC generates PCS moves year-round rather than in a tight seasonal window like combat units. We have confirmed carrier pricing from Fort Knox at $1,175 overland. Call when orders arrive and we will coordinate the calendar around your reporting date.

  • What about Eastern Kentucky - Ashland, Pikeville, and Hazard?

Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian region has limited carrier access similar to rural West Virginia. The mountain geography and sparse highway network mean fewer carriers run the area. Expect $3,380 to $3,780 all-inclusive and 3 to 4 weeks of lead time minimum. Call us with your specific address before booking.

  • Does Kentucky route through Long Beach or Oakland?

All Kentucky shipments route through Long Beach, CA. I-65 south to Nashville connects to I-24 west, and I-64 west connects through St. Louis to I-40 west - both routes lead to Long Beach. Long Beach height clearance is 7 feet, width clearance 7 feet 2 inches.

  • Do I need any documents to ship my car to Hawaii from Kentucky?

No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii - not when shipping to Hawaii.

  • Do you ship electric vehicles from Kentucky to Hawaii?

No. We do not ship electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids on any route. Standard non-plug-in hybrids are accepted.

  • Can I ship my car from Hawaii back to Kentucky?

Yes. We coordinate Port-to-Door shipping from all Hawaii terminals back to Kentucky. Ocean freight from Honolulu runs $900 to $1,200 with a 12 to 14 day transit, plus the mainland delivery leg. When shipping FROM Hawaii, title, current Hawaii registration, and Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate are required. Same all-inclusive pricing, same dedicated coordinator.
