Wyoming to Hawaii Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Wyoming to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing!

Wyoming sits on I-80, and that leads most people to assume Oakland port - because I-80 runs to the Bay Area. The reality is that Wyoming's carrier market routes to Long Beach. Carriers heading west from Wyoming on I-80 cut south at Salt Lake City on I-15, which runs directly to Los Angeles and Long Beach. The overland distance to both ports is similar, but the carrier market has settled on Long Beach - and Wyoming's high proportion of trucks, large SUVs, and modified vehicles reinforces that. Oakland's 76-inch height and width clearance is more restrictive than Long Beach's 7-foot and 7-foot-2-inch limits, and a Ram 1500 at 88 inches wide simply cannot use Oakland. Pricing confirmed from Laramie at $900 and Casper at $950 to $1,100, both routing to Long Beach.

How Wyoming to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

There is no direct sailing from Kentucky to Hawaii. Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Kentucky address to Long Beach, CA, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. All Kentucky shipments route through Long Beach. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price - the number you see is the number you pay.

Kentucky's interstate network gives its major population centers good carrier access. Louisville sits at the intersection of I-64 and I-65 - two major corridors with westbound connections to I-24 and I-40. Lexington connects via I-64 west to Louisville or directly via US-60 to I-65. Fort Campbell in the southwest uses I-24 west directly - one of the more direct Kentucky routes to Long Beach. Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati suburbs access I-71 south to Louisville. Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian geography is the exception: the coalfields corridor between Ashland, Pikeville, and Hazard has more limited carrier access and higher rates.

Get your all-inclusive quote - tell us your vehicle dimensions

Call (808) 378-7540 or use the online form. Wyoming defaults to Long Beach. If you have a standard passenger car or crossover that you believe fits Oakland clearance, tell us the dimensions at the first call and we will confirm the appropriate port before quoting. FE Warren AFB families should call when orders arrive.

We lock your rate and coordinate your sailing window

We go through your move-out date, your flight, and your Hawaii housing situation personally and time the carrier pickup to hit the right Matson sailing. Your $600 deposit locks the all-inclusive rate from the moment you book.

Carrier picks up at your Wyoming address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door. From Cheyenne and Laramie, 4 to 6 days to Long Beach. From Casper, 4 to 6 days. From Rock Springs, 3 to 5 days - the shortest leg in the state. From Jackson Hole, 4 to 7 days depending on the season and routing south to I-80.

Matson sails to Hawaii - you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel and sails to your Hawaii island, fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status and walk you through terminal pickup.

Wyoming Pickup Locations & Port Routing

All Wyoming shipments route through Long Beach, CA as the standard port. Oakland may apply for standard passenger cars under 76 inches in both height and width - confirm before booking.

All Virginia shipments route through Long Beach, CA. Virginia's geography places it solidly in the Long Beach routing, vehicles travel the I-40 or southern I-10 corridor cross-country. Oakland does not serve East Coast states.

Rock Springs and the I-80 corridor - shortest overland in Wyoming

Rock Springs in southwestern Wyoming sits directly on I-80 at approximately 940 to 990 miles from Long Beach - the shortest overland distance of any Wyoming city. Evanston, Green River, and Rawlins are similarly positioned. For customers in this corridor, the combination of I-80 direct access and short distance produces some of the most competitive all-inclusive pricing in the state. Jackson Hole is only about 75 miles north of Rock Springs, making it one of the more accessible resort destinations for outbound car shipping.

Rochester's carrier advantage

Rochester sits directly on I-90 - the same interstate that runs all the way to Long Beach without requiring a carrier to deviate north to the Twin Cities first. For Rochester customers, I-90 access means westbound carriers passing through the city on their way to California can load directly. At 1,820 to 1,870 miles, Rochester is also among the shorter overland distances in Minnesota, producing competitive pricing for southeastern Minnesota customers.

Pricing Tip: Shipping to Oahu rather than a neighbor island saves roughly $820 on ocean freight alone. Virginia to neighbor island shipments can take 32 to 40 days total - plan well ahead if Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island is your destination.

Peak season pricing. Peak season surcharges apply June through August. FE Warren AFB PCS cycles peak in summer. Jackson Hole and Teton County see elevated carrier demand during Yellowstone and Grand Teton summer tourism - book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for any Wyoming summer shipment.

About deposits: Your $600 deposit is paid at booking and applied toward your total - the prices above already reflect it. Booking locks your rate regardless of what the carrier market does after you book. Port-to-Port deposit is $200, applied toward the total.

Practical from MN?

Not realistic for most customers

Port-to-Port makes sense only if you are already planning a California road trip before your Hawaii move. For virtually all Virginia customers the door-to-door economics favor letting a carrier handle the cross-country leg.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Transit Times

Transit Times & the Matson Sailing Schedule

Wyoming's I-80 access and relatively short overland distances produce solid door-to-port timelines. Laramie and Rock Springs have some of the shorter totals in this series at under 1,100 miles. Jackson Hole's seasonal routing south to I-80 adds minor variability in winter.

The most expensive mistake Virginia customers make is booking too late and missing the sailing cutoff. Even one day late means waiting for the next available departure; typically a full week, which cascades into unexpected car rentals and hotel costs nobody planned for. We coordinate every Virginia pickup to a specific sailing window so that does not happen to you.

Booking lead time for Wyoming: Cheyenne, Laramie, and Casper: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. Rock Springs and I-80 corridor: 2 to 3 weeks. Jackson Hole: 2 to 3 weeks. Sheridan and Cody: 2 to 3 weeks. FE Warren AFB: call when orders arrive. Peak summer months and Yellowstone season: 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup in Wyoming

These requirements are enforced at Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No clothing, luggage, tools, or any personal belongings. Enforced at terminal intake and Hawaii agricultural inspection.

Remove roof racks, cargo boxes, bike racks, and ski carriers before pickup if shipping via Oakland. For Long Beach shipments, these may remain if within Long Beach clearance limits (7 feet height, 7 feet 2 inches width).

Disable the alarm system before pickup.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Wyoming high desert dust, soil from unpaved ranch roads, and organic debris from forests and meadows accumulate in wheel wells and undercarriage. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check these areas specifically - wash the vehicle thoroughly including underneath before pickup.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional at pickup. Wyoming's roads are hard on suspension and alignment - confirm both before carrier arrives.

No windshield chips or cracks. Wyoming highway driving produces significant chip exposure - inspect and repair before pickup.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

Minnesota road salt and biosecurity

Minnesota applies road salt aggressively through its long winters. Undercarriage salt accumulation is a real biosecurity concern - Hawaii USDA inspectors are trained to detect it. A thorough undercarriage wash before pickup is not optional for Minnesota vehicles. This is also good practice for the carrier's equipment and for protecting your vehicle during the 5 to 7 day overland transit.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives - all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Wyoming to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions of your shipment are covered by two different types of protection, and understanding both before you book matters - especially on a long cross-country haul from Virginia.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Wyoming to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance covering the vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Wyoming address to Long Beach - from a Cheyenne street, a Casper neighborhood, an FE Warren AFB base address, or a Jackson Hole road.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives and again at Hawaii terminal collection.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit to the full vehicle value.

PCS Moves

Military PCS Moves from Wyoming to Hawaii

Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne is one of the most strategically significant Air Force installations in the United States. The 90th Missile Wing at FE Warren operates Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles dispersed across approximately 10,000 square miles of Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska - one of only three nuclear ICBM wings in the Air Force. FE Warren is the Air Force's oldest active installation and generates consistent PCS volume to Pearl Harbor-Hickam and other Hawaii commands as officers and enlisted personnel rotate assignments. Cheyenne's I-80 access makes carrier assignment straightforward. The Wyoming Army National Guard operates Camp Guernsey in Goshen County and Camp Williams in Laramie County, generating Guard PCS moves through reserve channels.

Virginia PCS moves to Hawaii require early booking. The overland leg from Hampton Roads or Northern Virginia is 7 to 10 days before the car even reaches Long Beach. Cutting the booking timeline short on a Virginia shipment is the most common mistake we see, and it usually means missing a sailing and delaying the entire move. We work through the calendar with every military customer personally so that does not happen.

🎖️ Military discounts may apply depending on route and availability. If you cannot drop off at a West Coast port yourself, our door-to-port service includes nationwide pickup at your base address. Call us to discuss both options and which makes sense for your PCS orders.

Military PCS Car Shipping from Virginia to Hawaii is handled with inspection, secure transport to port, ocean freight shipment, and coordinated delivery for service members.

Real Reviews from Real Virginia Customers

Camilo Jaime — Lead Shipping Coordinator

Car Shipping Hawaii · Honolulu, HI · 18 Years Industry Experience

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class M. Chen — Norfolk, VA to Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

Wyoming customers face two specific issues: being incorrectly routed to Oakland when Long Beach is the right port, and not having vehicle dimensions checked before booking. We confirm port assignment and dimensions at the first call.

Feature Car Shipping Hawaii Typical Broker
Port assignment confirmed - Long Beach for most WY vehicles ✓ Oakland misconception corrected upfront ✗ May assume Oakland because of I-80
Vehicle dimensions checked before booking ✓ WY truck clearance verified at first call ✗ Booking taken without confirming dimensions
FE Warren AFB 90th MW PCS experience ✓ Remote access discussed upfront ✗ Generic booking process
All-inclusive pricing - quote form matches page price ✓ Camilo Jaime, direct and consistent ✗ Quote form often shows higher number
Named single coordinator ✓ Hawaii route experts only ✗ Call center, different agent each time
Matson Route Specialist ✓ Pickup timed to your sailing ✗ General auto transport broker
Calendar coordination at booking ✓ Both layers explained clearly ✗ Generic window, you figure it out

Booking lead time

Book at least 2 to 3 weeks before your target pickup date. During peak summer months, 4 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended. Virginia shipments need careful lead time - the overland leg is 7 to 10 days, which leaves little room to recover if carrier scheduling slips. A deposit locks your vessel space and your rate.

  • How much does it cost to ship a car from Wyoming to Hawaii?

All prices are all-inclusive with the $600 deposit already reflected, all routing via Long Beach. Cheyenne: $2,980 to $3,230. Laramie: $3,080 to $3,280, with $900 confirmed. Casper: $3,130 to $3,380, with $950 to $1,100 confirmed. Rock Springs and SW Wyoming: $3,030 to $3,280. Jackson Hole: $3,130 to $3,480. Sheridan and Cody: $3,180 to $3,530. Neighbor islands add $820 in ocean freight. The price you see is the price you pay.

  • Why does Wyoming use Long Beach instead of Oakland?

Wyoming carriers route through Long Beach for two reasons. First, I-80 heading west from Wyoming reaches Salt Lake City and cuts south on I-15 to Los Angeles and Long Beach - not north to Oakland. Second, Wyoming vehicles are often trucks and large SUVs that exceed Oakland's 76-inch height and width clearance. Long Beach's 7-foot height and 7-foot-2-inch width clearance is significantly more accommodating for Wyoming's vehicle types.

  • I am PCS'ing from FE Warren AFB. What should I know?

FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne has solid I-80 access and consistent PCS volume to Hawaii commands. The 90th Missile Wing PCS cycle is well-understood. Call us when orders arrive and we will coordinate the calendar around your reporting date from day one. Confirm your vehicle dimensions at the first call so we can confirm the correct port.

  • My truck has a lift kit. Can it still ship?

Lifted trucks often exceed Oakland's 76-inch clearance but remain within Long Beach's 7-foot limit. Measure your truck's total height after the lift and confirm it is under 7 feet. Width including mirrors must be under 7 feet 2 inches. If your truck fits Long Beach clearance, we can ship it. If it exceeds Long Beach clearance as well, we cannot accommodate the shipment through our service.

  • Does Wyoming route through Long Beach or Oakland?

Long Beach is standard for Wyoming. Oakland is only applicable for standard passenger cars under 76 inches in both height and width - call us to confirm before assuming Oakland routing applies to your vehicle.

  • Do I need any documents to ship my car to Hawaii from Wyoming?

No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii - not when shipping to Hawaii.

  • Do you ship electric vehicles from Wyoming to Hawaii?

No. We do not ship electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids on any route. Standard non-plug-in hybrids are accepted.

  • Can I ship my car from Hawaii back to Wyoming?

Yes. We coordinate Port-to-Door shipping from all Hawaii terminals back to Wyoming via Long Beach. Ocean freight from Honolulu runs $900 to $1,200 with a 12 to 14 day transit, plus the mainland delivery leg. When shipping FROM Hawaii, title, current Hawaii registration, and Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate are required. Same all-inclusive pricing, same dedicated coordinator.
