Louisianato Hawaii Car Shipping

Ship Your Car from Louisiana to Hawaii - Fully Managed, All-Inclusive Pricing!

Louisiana sits directly on I-10, the most direct carrier route from the Gulf Coast to California, and that access produces competitive overland rates across the state. Load board data confirms $850 to $1,050 overland from New Orleans at approximately 1,890 to 1,930 miles - among the better rates in the Southeast at that distance. Southwest Louisiana benefits most: Sulphur near Lake Charles comes in at $925 at only 1,691 miles, sharing the Houston carrier corridor. Fort Johnson in Leesville, renamed from Fort Polk, is home to the 10th Mountain Division and generates consistent PCS volume to Schofield Barracks. Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport flies B-52s with the 2nd Bomb Wing and sends regular PCS moves to Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Simple. Transparent. Reliable.

How Louisiana to Hawaii Car Shipping Works

There is no direct sailing from Louisiana to Hawaii. Your vehicle travels in two legs: an overland haul from your Louisiana address to Long Beach, CA, followed by ocean transit to your Hawaii destination. All Louisiana shipments route through Long Beach via I-10 west. We coordinate both legs as a single managed shipment with one all-inclusive price - the number you see is the number you pay.

Louisiana's position on I-10 gives it natural carrier corridor access for westbound shipments. Carriers running the New Orleans to Los Angeles lane pass through Louisiana on every trip, producing consistent availability and competitive rates statewide. New Orleans at 1,890 to 1,930 miles from Long Beach is one of the shorter overland distances in the Southeast. Southwest Louisiana - Lake Charles, Lafayette, Sulphur - has the shortest overland in the state at 1,670 to 1,750 miles, effectively sharing the Houston carrier market. Northeast Louisiana routes via I-20 west to Texas and then south to I-10.

Call (808) 378-7540 or use the online form. Louisiana has good carrier availability on the I-10 corridor statewide. Fort Johnson and Barksdale AFB families should call when orders arrive - we coordinate the calendar around your reporting date from the first call.

We lock your rate and coordinate your sailing window

We go through your move-out date, your flight, and your Hawaii housing situation personally and time the carrier pickup to hit the right Matson sailing. Your $600 deposit locks the all-inclusive rate from the moment you book.

Carrier picks up at your Louisiana address

A licensed carrier collects the vehicle from your door and transports it to Long Beach via I-10 west. From New Orleans, 6 to 8 days. From southwest Louisiana, 5 to 7 days. From northeast Louisiana and Shreveport, 6 to 8 days via I-20 west to I-10.

Matson sails to Hawaii - you pick up at the terminal

Your vehicle loads onto the Matson vessel and sails to your Hawaii island, fully enclosed aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off ship. We notify you when your vehicle reaches Grounded/Available status and walk you through terminal pickup.

Louisiana Pickup Locations & Port Routing

All Louisiana shipments route through Long Beach, CA. I-10 runs east-west directly through the state and connects to Los Angeles without major detour - making Louisiana one of the most naturally positioned Gulf Coast states for competitive carrier rates.

All Virginia shipments route through Long Beach, CA. Virginia's geography places it solidly in the Long Beach routing, vehicles travel the I-40 or southern I-10 corridor cross-country. Oakland does not serve East Coast states.

Ship Your Car from Louisiana to Hawaii is handled as a car is securely packed, moved by truck, and shipped across the Pacific Ocean.

Why Columbia is the most competitive SC city for Hawaii shipping

Columbia's I-26 and I-20 intersection gives it two westbound interstate options. I-20 runs directly to Atlanta and onward to Texas and the Southwest. I-26 connects west to I-40 through Tennessee. Both corridors are well-traveled carrier lanes with consistent truck traffic. At approximately 2,420 miles from Long Beach, Columbia produces the most competitive door-to-port pricing in the state - load board data confirms standard vehicle overland rates of $900 to $1,050 from the Columbia area.

Why Louisiana produces competitive rates despite being far from California

I-10 runs directly from New Orleans to Los Angeles without significant deviation - it is one of the straightest transcontinental carrier routes in the country. Carriers running the Gulf Coast to California lane use Louisiana as a natural through-state, meaning consistent carrier availability and no dead-end approach premium for most Louisiana cities. New Orleans at 1,890 miles with $850 to $1,050 overland reflects a healthy carrier market. Southwest Louisiana benefits from being within the Houston carrier orbit, where carriers heading to and from Texas oil country create additional availability on westbound routes.

Worth considering?

If already planning a road trip west

Port-to-Port makes sense only if you are already planning a California road trip before your Hawaii move. For virtually all Virginia customers the door-to-door economics favor letting a carrier handle the cross-country leg.

No documents needed to ship to Hawaii. No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping a vehicle to Hawaii. Documents are only required when shipping FROM Hawaii back to the mainland. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Transit Times

Transit Times & the Matson Sailing Schedule

Louisiana's I-10 position gives it a fast overland leg relative to Gulf Coast peers. New Orleans to Honolulu typically runs 20 to 25 days total - one of the shorter East-of-the-Mississippi totals in this series. Southwest Louisiana shaves 1 to 2 days off that with its shorter miles.

The most expensive mistake Virginia customers make is booking too late and missing the sailing cutoff. Even one day late means waiting for the next available departure; typically a full week, which cascades into unexpected car rentals and hotel costs nobody planned for. We coordinate every Virginia pickup to a specific sailing window so that does not happen to you.

Booking lead time for Louisiana: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and southwest Louisiana: 2 to 3 weeks minimum. Northeast Louisiana and Shreveport: 2 to 3 weeks. Fort Johnson and Barksdale AFB: call when orders arrive. Peak summer months statewide: 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

Ship Your Car from Louisiana to Hawaii is executed as a vehicle is loaded onto transport, carried by truck, and shipped by sea safely.

How to Prepare Your Car Before Pickup

These requirements are enforced at Long Beach terminal intake and at Hawaii's agricultural biosecurity inspection, run by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. No documents are required at the port when shipping to Hawaii.

Required: Shipping TO Hawaii

Fuel at or below a quarter tank. Required fire safety regulation at all maritime terminals.

Remove all personal items from the interior. No luggage, household goods, or belongings permitted. Enforced at intake and Hawaii agricultural inspection.

Disable the alarm system before pickup.

Exterior and interior cleaned thoroughly. Louisiana coastal vehicles accumulate salt air residue, pluff mud, and organic material from marshes and lowcountry waterways in wheel wells and undercarriage. Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors check these areas specifically. Coastal SC customers should wash the vehicle thoroughly including underneath before pickup.

Vehicle fully operational. Steering, braking, and rolling must be 100% functional at pickup.

No windshield chips or cracks. Inspect and repair before pickup.

Government-issued photo ID and vehicle registration ready for Hawaii terminal pickup.

Not Accepted - No Exceptions

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are not accepted. We do not ship EVs or plug-in hybrids on any route.

Non-running vehicles are not accepted. The vehicle must be fully operational at pickup.

Louisiana wetlands and biosecurity

Louisiana's bayous, marshes, and coastal wetlands are some of the most biologically active environments in North America. Vehicles driven in these areas - particularly in south Louisiana - can accumulate mud, vegetation, and organic material that Hawaii USDA biosecurity inspectors will flag. Clean the vehicle thoroughly including wheel wells and the undercarriage before carrier pickup, especially if you have been driving on unpaved roads or in flood-affected areas.

No documents needed to ship TO Hawaii

No title, registration, or authorization paperwork is required at the port when shipping to Hawaii. Lienholder authorization is only required when shipping FROM Hawaii. Bring your government-issued photo ID and registration when picking up at the Hawaii terminal.

Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives - all four sides, the roof, and the interior. This documentation protects you in any claim situation.

Insurance Coverage

How Insurance Works on Louisiana to Hawaii Shipments

Most brokers never explain this. The overland and ocean portions carry two different types of protection.

Layer 1 - Overland Transport

Overland Transport (Louisiana to Long Beach)

$100,000

The land carrier carries up to $100,000 in cargo insurance covering the vehicle for the entire overland portion from your Louisiana address to Long Beach - from a New Orleans neighborhood, a Baton Rouge suburb, a Fort Johnson base address, or a Barksdale AFB housing unit.

💡

Our recommendation: Verify with your personal auto insurance carrier whether your policy covers ocean transport. Photograph your vehicle thoroughly before the carrier arrives and again at Hawaii terminal collection.

Layer 2 - Ocean Transport

Ocean Transport (Matson Vessel)

$8,000

Matson's carrier liability is limited to actual damage sustained, up to approximately $8,000 for an average-sized vehicle. You can declare a higher vehicle value on the Dock Receipt and pay an additional freight rate to increase this limit to the full vehicle value.

PCS Moves

Military PCS Moves from Louisiana to Hawaii

Louisiana has three active military installations that generate PCS volume to Hawaii commands. Fort Johnson in Leesville, renamed from Fort Polk in 2023, is home to the 10th Mountain Division - the Army's premier light infantry division - and generates consistent PCS moves to Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield, and Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport is home to the 2nd Bomb Wing operating B-52 Stratofortress aircraft and Air Force Global Strike Command, generating Air Force PCS moves to Pearl Harbor-Hickam and other Hawaii commands. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans in Belle Chasse, adjacent to New Orleans, is a joint-service reserve installation supporting Navy and Marine Corps Reserve units and generating periodic PCS moves.

Virginia PCS moves to Hawaii require early booking. The overland leg from Hampton Roads or Northern Virginia is 7 to 10 days before the car even reaches Long Beach. Cutting the booking timeline short on a Virginia shipment is the most common mistake we see, and it usually means missing a sailing and delaying the entire move. We work through the calendar with every military customer personally so that does not happen.

MCAS Beaufort and Parris Island - east-of-I-95 carrier premium applies
MCAS Beaufort and MCRD Parris Island are both in the Beaufort area east of I-95 in South Carolina's coastal plain. Marines PCS'ing from Beaufort or Parris Island fall in the same coastal carrier premium zone as Charleston - carriers making pickups in this area price the dedicated I-95 out-and-back into their rate. We explain this clearly at booking so there are no surprises on the day of pickup. Beaufort Marines should call when orders arrive and expect pricing in the $2,580 to $2,880 door-to-port range for Oahu.

Military PCS Moves from Louisiana to Hawaii are completed as household goods and vehicles are packed, moved, and shipped overseas.

Real Reviews from Real Virginia Customers

Car Shipping Hawaii · Honolulu, HI · 18 Years Industry Experience

Virginia — and the Hampton Roads area especially — is one of our most active PCS corridors. Naval Station Norfolk alone generates a significant volume of Hawaii-bound shipments every year. With 18 years coordinating thousands of Hawaii shipments, our team knows exactly how to time a Virginia pickup to hit the right sailing window. The overland leg from the East Coast requires more lead time than most people expect, and we build that into every booking.

"

PCS from Naval Station Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. I had a hard reporting date and our team was upfront about exactly how much lead time the Virginia-to-Hawaii shipment needed. The car was at Sand Island Terminal two days before I landed. That is the kind of coordination you need on a military move — nothing left to chance.

Petty Officer 2nd Class M. Chen — Norfolk, VA to Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Virginia Beach to Maui — our team was clear from the start that a neighbor island shipment from the East Coast takes 32 to 40 days. We planned around it and there were zero surprises.

Tom & Angela B. — Virginia Beach, VA to Kahului, Maui

Relocating from Richmond to Honolulu for work. I got quotes from four companies — only Car Shipping Hawaii explained the two-part cost structure honestly. One price, locked. No calls asking for more money before pickup.

Why Car Shipping Hawaii vs. Other Brokers

Louisiana customers on the I-10 corridor typically have a smooth carrier experience. The main risk is post-booking pricing surprises. We solve that with all-inclusive pricing that matches your quote form from the first call.

Feature Car Shipping Hawaii Typical Broker
All-inclusive pricing - quote form matches page price ✓ Deposit in the price, no surprises ✗ Quote form often shows higher number
Fort Johnson 10th Mountain PCS experience ✓ Light infantry PCS cycles coordinated ✗ Generic booking process
Barksdale AFB B-52 wing PCS experience ✓ AFGSC PCS moves managed ✗ Treats it as standard booking
Named single coordinator ✓ Camilo Jaime, direct and consistent ✗ Call center, different agent each time
Matson Route Specialist ✓ Hawaii route experts only ✗ General auto transport broker
Calendar coordination at booking ✓ Pickup timed to your sailing ✗ Generic window, you figure it out
Wetlands biosecurity prep noted ✓ Louisiana-specific prep guidance ✗ Generic checklist

Booking lead time

Book at least 2 to 3 weeks before your target pickup date. During peak summer months, 4 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended. Virginia shipments need careful lead time - the overland leg is 7 to 10 days, which leaves little room to recover if carrier scheduling slips. A deposit locks your vessel space and your rate.
