When getting a car shipping quote, it is important to note that when you ship your car with Matson that they DO NOT provide land service on the mainland. When looking for auto transport quotes, please note that there are several options on how to ship your car to Hawaii.
The first and most affordable cost to ship option is Port To Port. The other two options are Port To Door and Door to Port which, require and open or enclosed car carrier that either picks up or drops off your car for you which, is especially useful for those on the east coast.
While Hawaii Car Shipping prices hover anywhere between $1000 & $3000, and even more for the enclosed auto transport carrier. We suggest before making your decision, you definitely, want to do some research about vehicles in Hawaii they tend to be expensive and have limited options. Is Matson Car Shipping Enclosed?
While the short answer is yes, there are circumstances that Matson can place your car on the deck of the ship. While most of Matson's big ships that handle the long journey across the pacific are enclosed. Some of the interisland journeys are done on Matson's smaller ships which are not enclosed or only partially enclosed.
There is no telling when or if Matson will be place your car on one of the open vessels. But, it is important that you know, that it can happen. There is no way to avoid this, but at least you have been warned.
Hawaii car transport on Matson's ships across the pacific is done using modern roll-on roll-off ships. This means the cars are driven on and off the ships for transportation. The cars are placed safely inside the belly of the ship and are going to be protected from the elements, such as salt wind and rain. Keep in mind other car shipping companies do use open vessels and the exposure to the elements can damage your car, so beware!
